TCL Introduces First RGB MiniLED LCD TVs Up to 115 Inches

TCL has announced its first LCD televisions equipped with RGB MiniLED backlighting. The new models, known as RM9L in some markets, come in sizes of 85, 98, and 115 inches.

This marks TCL’s entry into RGB MiniLED technology for consumer LCD TVs. The company has worked on this approach since 2018. RGB MiniLED uses separate red, green, and blue LEDs for the backlight, which aims to deliver precise color control and wide color coverage.

Key Specifications of the RM9L Series

The RM9L series offers strong performance in several areas:

  • Peak brightness — Up to 9,000 nits.
  • Color coverage — 100% of the BT.2020 space.
  • Dimming zones — Up to 16,848 in the 115-inch version (with 8,736 in the 85-inch and 11,520 in the 98-inch).
  • Panel — WHVA 2.0 LCD for wider viewing angles.
  • Resolution and refresh — 4K with 144Hz native refresh rate (or 288Hz at 1080p).
  • Other features — Google TV platform, four HDMI 2.1 ports, Dolby Atmos support, Bang & Olufsen audio, AiPQ Pro processor, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision (likely including Dolby Vision 2).

These specifications position the RM9L as a high-end option, though it sits below TCL’s 2026 flagship X11L series. The X11L uses Super Quantum Dot (SQD) miniLED backlighting instead of RGB.

Context in TCL’s 2026 Lineup

TCL introduced details about these models at CES 2026. The company has already launched similar RGB MiniLED TVs in China under the Q10M Ultra name. There, the 115-inch version carries a high price point.

RGB MiniLED addresses color accuracy and brightness in LCD TVs. It joins efforts by brands like Hisense and Samsung in this area. Challenges include managing the mix of red, green, and blue LEDs in each dimming zone, which demands advanced control.

TCL plans to roll out more details on the full 2026 lineup later this year. Availability for markets outside China will become clearer then.

This development highlights the ongoing push for larger, brighter LCD TVs as an alternative to other display types. The 115-inch size continues TCL’s focus on ultra-large screens.
