Samsung Adds Perplexity AI to 2025 Smart TVs

Samsung has rolled out a new app that brings Perplexity AI to its smart TVs. This tool acts as a direct answer service, pulling facts from reliable places to give clear responses. Owners of 2025 models can download it right away from the Tizen app store. For 2023 and 2024 sets, an operating system update will add it by the end of the year. The move fits into Samsung’s push to make TVs central spots for information and entertainment.

Perplexity AI: A Quick Answer Tool

Perplexity stands out by focusing on straight facts rather than broad chats. It checks trusted sites and cites them in replies. On Samsung TVs, the app shows results in easy-to-scan cards with images and details. After a response, it offers related questions to build on what you asked.

Ryan Foutty, Perplexity’s vice president of business, noted that questions pop up anytime. He said the app helps fill the space between old-style searches and new AI ways to get info. Users can voice queries or type them using the on-screen keyboard. Plug in a USB keyboard for faster input if you like.

Examples include asking for Halloween movie ideas, tips on skipping chores, outfit suggestions for a night out, or basic health fixes. The app ties into Samsung’s AI button for quick access.

As a start, Samsung users get a free year of Perplexity Pro. Scan a QR code in the app to claim it. Pro unlocks top models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google for sharper answers. It also adds a research feature for full reports and an image maker.

Part of Samsung’s Growing AI Lineup

This app joins other AI options on Samsung TVs. It works within the Vision AI Companion, unveiled at IFA 2025 in September. That platform pulls together AI tools for smoother use across screens. Dan Glassman, Samsung’s senior director of new business development, called it a fresh way to personalize viewing.

In August, Samsung refreshed Bixby, its built-in voice helper. Now it handles full talks, like suggesting shows with specific stars or pulling live sports scores. The update started in South Korea and spread to places like the US and Europe. It uses natural language processing (NLP) to grasp context in questions.

Microsoft Copilot arrived the same month as an app on the Tizen home screen. It aids with navigation, picks content, and shares details on shows or films. Access it via voice or remote, and it shows answers in visual cards.

Competitors Follow the AI Trend

Other TV makers are adding similar features. Google began Gemini rollout on Google TV in September 2025, starting with TCL sets. It replaces the old Google Assistant and handles watch suggestions, questions, image creation, and learning aids from YouTube. Full spread to devices like the Google TV Streamer comes later this year.

Roku updated its voice tool in October with AI for trivia on shows, actors, and content. Ask about a plot or if something suits kids, and it replies on screen. It also adds live sports scores and faster search in live TV guides.

Apple plans an Apple TV 4K refresh by late 2025. Rumors point to a stronger chip like the A17 Pro or A19 for Apple Intelligence support. This would bring AI summaries, smarter searches, and home hub boosts. It might keep the small puck shape but add more memory for on-device tasks.

  • Samsung’s Edge: Multiple AI choices give users options.
  • Google’s Focus: Ties deep into YouTube for video-based answers.
  • Roku’s Simplicity: Quick trivia without extra apps.
  • Apple’s Wait: Promises tight integration but no firm date.

How to Get Started with Perplexity

Find the app in the Tizen Apps tab or hit the AI button to open Vision AI Companion. Accept terms on first launch, then grant mic access for voice use. Speak naturally or type away.

For older TVs, watch for the firmware update notification. It rolls out in phases by region. Once there, setup mirrors the new models.

What This Means for TV Users

More AI on TVs turns them into daily helpers. Get facts, ideas, or tips without grabbing a phone. Samsung leads with variety, but questions linger on overload. Still, choices like Perplexity’s source checks add trust.

Key themes here include natural language processing (NLP) for smooth talks and AI personalization for tailored info. These build on generative AI to make screens responsive.
