TCL plans to bring Android 14 to its 2025 Mini-LED TV lineup through a firmware update. This move upgrades the smart platform on recent models that run Google TV.
Which Models Are Affected
The update targets TVs equipped with the Pentonic 700 chipset. These include:
- C8K series (known as QM8K in the US)
- C7K series (QM7K)
- C6K series (QM6K)
- C855 (QM851G)
- C845
- C805 (also listed as C755 in some LCD variants)
- Nxtvision gallery-style TV
These 2025 models use Mini-LED backlighting for better contrast and brightness control.
Current software on these TVs runs on Android 12 via Google TV. The new firmware, version V590, shifts the base to Android 14.
Key Changes in the Update
The V590 update adds several practical improvements:
- Super Resolution upscaling for better detail in lower-resolution content
- HDMI 2.1 Quick Media Switching (QMS) to reduce black screen flicker during frame rate changes (such as from 24Hz films to 60Hz content)
- Picture-in-Picture mode
- New energy saving options
- HDR conversion features
QMS works best with direct connections to the TV. It may not function through AV receivers or soundbars, and it does not apply during SDR-to-HDR switches. Users can turn it on in Settings > Channels and Inputs > External Inputs.

Availability and Rollout
The firmware is available now as a manual download from community sources. Automatic rollout through over-the-air updates is expected in the coming weeks.
This applies only to the listed Pentonic 700 models. Older TCL TVs or those without this chipset will not receive it.
TCL continues to focus on QD-Mini LED panels in its 2025 range for precise local dimming and high peak brightness levels.
