Samsung Wallet Partners with UnionPay for Global Mobile Payments

UnionPay International and Samsung Electronics have announced a new collaboration that lets UnionPay cardholders add their cards to Samsung Wallet. This move makes mobile payments more straightforward for users worldwide.

The service uses an “NFC-QRC all-in-one” solution. Cardholders can now select either NFC contactless payment or QR code payment when they make a transaction.

Launch Starts in Hong Kong

The rollout begins in Hong Kong SAR. BOC Credit Card (International) Co., Ltd. joins as the first issuing partner. This allows BOC UnionPay credit cardholders to link their cards to Samsung Wallet with priority access.

Samsung Wallet runs on Galaxy smartphones and other compatible Android devices. It is available in 62 countries and regions.

UnionPay mobile payment services, including QuickPass and QR codes, are accepted in over 100 countries and regions. Outside mainland China, UnionPay QuickPass works at more than 23 million POS terminals. QR code acceptance has advanced in about 50 countries, reaching tens of millions of merchants.

What This Means for Users

This partnership broadens access to UnionPay’s mobile Pay options for Android users. It also speeds up the process for issuing local digital cards in markets abroad.

The setup combines Samsung’s device reach with UnionPay’s network of issuers and merchants. Both companies expect it to support more mobile payments in stores and online, starting in the Greater China area and extending further.

The announcement came on January 10, 2026, from Shanghai.
