Emerson TV Universal Remote Codes – Complete List (2026)

Lost your Emerson remote? Programming a universal remote to your Emerson TV takes under 5 minutes. You need the right code, the right button sequence, and one of the tables below.

This guide covers every current code format — 2-digit through 5-digit — organized by remote brand, plus two programming methods and a troubleshooting section if things don’t go as expected.

Quick Answer

To program a universal remote to an Emerson TV: Turn on the TV → press and hold the Setup (or Code Search) button on your universal remote until the indicator light stays on → enter an Emerson TV code from the list below → if the light blinks twice and goes off, the code is accepted. Test with the power or volume button.

Emerson TV Universal Remote Codes List

Most remotes made after 2015 use 4-digit or 5-digit codes. If your remote’s manual specifies a digit length, go directly to that section. If you’re unsure, start with 4-digit codes — they cover the widest range of Emerson models.

How to Program a Universal Remote to an Emerson TV

There are two methods. Method 1 is faster if you already have a code. Method 2 works when you don’t know which code fits your exact Emerson model.

Method 1 – Manual Code Entry (Recommended)

Step 1. Turn on your Emerson TV using the power button on the TV itself.

Step 2. Point your universal remote at the TV. Press and hold the Setup button (some remotes label this Code Search or Magic) until the indicator light stays on solid.

Step 3. Press the TV button on the remote. On some remotes, this activates TV mode before you enter the code.

Step 4. Enter a code from the table above using the number keypad. Use the digit length that matches your remote type.

Step 5. Watch for a confirmation signal (see the table in the next section). If confirmed, test the remote by pressing power, volume up, and channel up.

Step 6. If the TV doesn’t respond, repeat from Step 2 with the next code on the list. It’s normal to try 3–5 codes before finding one that works.

If you’re using a One For All universal remote, the setup button is labeled Magic — the programming sequence is the same from Step 3 onward.

For Philips universal remote users, watch for the device keys to flash three times after entering the code — that’s your confirmation signal instead of an LED blink.

Method 2 – Auto-Search / Code Scan

Use this when you don’t want to enter codes manually, or when none of the listed codes are working.

Step 1. Turn on your Emerson TV.

Step 2. Press and hold the Setup button until the indicator light turns on.

Step 3. Press the TV button once.

Step 4. Press the Power button on the remote repeatedly — once every 3 seconds. The remote cycles through its entire code library automatically.

Step 5. The moment the TV turns off, stop pressing. The remote has landed on a working code.

Step 6. Press Setup once to save the code. Test with volume and channel buttons.

If the TV turns back on after Step 5, the code isn’t saved yet. Stop immediately and press Setup to lock it in.

Programming Notes by Remote Brand

Different universal remote brands use different button names and confirmation signals.

Remote BrandSetup Button NameConfirmation Signal When Code Works
GE / UltraProSetupLED turns off
RCACode SearchLED blinks twice, then off
One For AllMagicLED blinks twice, then off
PhilipsSetupDevice keys flash 3 times
XfinitySetup (hold 5 sec)LED turns green
SpectrumTV button (hold 3 sec)LED flashes twice
BlackwebSetupLED blinks twice
MagnavoxCode SearchLED turns off

Using a GE universal remote? The LED turning off completely is your signal — not a blink. Many users miss this and assume the code failed.

For Spectrum remote users, hold the TV button for a full 3 seconds before entering the code. Releasing too early skips the pairing mode and the code won’t register.

For Blackweb universal remote users, the setup sequence is identical to GE — press Setup, wait for solid LED, press TV, then enter your code.

How to Confirm the Code Worked

Once you enter a code and see the confirmation signal, run all four of these tests before finishing:

  1. Power — Press power. The TV should turn off.
  2. Volume — Turn the TV back on manually, then test volume up and down.
  3. Channel — Press channel up and down. Both should change.
  4. Mute — Press mute. The TV should silence instantly.

If any of these fail, the code is a partial match. Some codes control power but not volume. This happens because different Emerson TV models use slightly different IR protocols — the code matches one command set but not another. Try the next code in the list until all four functions work.

If you’re pairing other TV brands alongside your Emerson, the same four-test method applies. Check the dedicated guides for RCA universal remote codes, Samsung TV remote codes, Vizio universal remote codes, and Sony TV remote codes for brand-specific code tables.

Emerson TV Remote Not Working? Try These Fixes

Wrong code. The most common cause. Not every code in the list works with every Emerson model. Try 3–4 more codes in the same digit-length section before switching methods.

Dead or weak batteries. A remote with low batteries can appear to work — the LED lights up — but the IR signal isn’t strong enough to reach the TV sensor. Swap in fresh batteries before troubleshooting further.

Signal path blocked. IR remotes need a clear line of sight to the TV’s sensor, usually located at the bottom-right or bottom-center of the front panel. Move anything in that path. Bright sunlight and fluorescent lighting can also interfere with IR signals.

Remote stuck in wrong mode. Most universal remotes have separate modes for TV, cable box, DVD, and AUX. If you pressed the wrong device button by mistake, the remote is sending signals to the wrong device. Press the TV button to return to TV mode.

Remote hardware fault. If you’ve tried 10+ codes, replaced the batteries, cleared the line of sight, and confirmed the correct device mode — the remote itself likely has a hardware problem. At that point, replacing it with a universal TV remote is the practical fix.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need my original Emerson remote to program a universal remote? No. You only need the original remote if you need to access a TV settings menu that can’t be reached any other way. For standard code programming, the TV’s physical power button is enough to get started.

Why do some codes only control power and not volume? Each code corresponds to a specific IR protocol. Some protocols share Emerson’s power command but use a different volume command set. Always test power, volume, channel, and mute before calling a code successful.

What’s the most reliable 4-digit code for Emerson TVs? Start with 0180, 1864, or 0463. These appear across multiple remote brands and work with the widest range of Emerson TV models. If none of those work, try 0171 or 1661 next.

What’s the most reliable 5-digit code for Emerson TVs? Try 11864, 10171, or 10463 first. These are the most consistently reported working codes across GE, RCA, Xfinity, and Spectrum remotes paired with Emerson TVs.

Can I program an Xfinity remote to an Emerson TV? Yes. Use 5-digit code 11864 or 10171 first. If those fail, the full Xfinity list in the 5-digit section above has 27 options to work through.

Can I use a Spectrum remote with an Emerson TV? Yes. Start with 11864 or 10171 for 5-digit, or 1864 for 4-digit. Spectrum remotes confirm a successful pairing with two LED flashes. Full instructions are in our Spectrum TV remote codes guide.

Does this work for older Emerson TV models like Durabrand or Sylvania? Emerson manufactured TVs under several sub-brands. If you have a Durabrand set, check the Durabrand TV remote codes guide for a model-specific list. The programming steps are identical.

What about Onn or Sanyo universal remotes? Both work with Emerson TVs. See the Onn universal remote codes guide and Sanyo universal remote codes guide for their specific code lists.
