Dynex TVs work with universal remotes — but you won’t find “Dynex” listed as a brand option on most remotes. That’s the source of almost every problem people run into. Once you understand why, the codes start making sense.
This guide covers the correct codes for every major remote brand, step-by-step programming instructions, a fix for the partial function issue (power works but input doesn’t), and what to do when no code works.
Why Dynex Doesn’t Have Its Own Universal Code
Dynex was Best Buy’s private-label TV brand. Best Buy didn’t manufacture the TVs — they contracted third-party OEM factories to build them under the Dynex name. Different Dynex models were built by different manufacturers over the years, using chipsets from brands like Emerson, Admiral, and Sansui.
This means your Dynex TV responds to the IR signals of whichever OEM built it — not to a “Dynex” code. On most remotes, you’ll need to enter a code listed under Emerson, Admiral, or one of the other compatible brands. The codes in this guide are confirmed working across the most common Dynex models.

Which Code Format Does Your Remote Use?
Before you start, check your remote type:
- 3-digit codes — older universal remotes, some Dish Network handsets
- 4-digit codes — standard GE, RCA, and most cable/satellite remotes
- 5-digit codes — Comcast/Xfinity XR2, XR5, XR11, XR15; DirecTV Genie; newer One For All remotes
If you try a code and the LED blinks red or doesn’t respond, you likely have the wrong digit count for your remote model. Match the format below to your remote brand.
How to Program a Universal Remote to a Dynex TV
This method works for GE, RCA, One For All, Onn, Magnavox, and most generic universal remotes.
- Turn on your Dynex TV.
- Press and hold the Setup button on the remote until the LED indicator turns on and stays lit.
- Press the TV button once.
- Enter your code using the number pad. The LED should turn off when you enter the last digit.
- Press the Power button to test. If the TV turns off, the code worked.
- Press Volume + to confirm full control. If volume responds, save the code by pressing the TV button once. The LED will blink twice to confirm.
If the TV doesn’t respond, the LED stays on, or nothing happens — the code didn’t match. Try the next code in the list.
Dynex TV Remote Codes by Brand
Comcast / Xfinity (XR2, XR5, XR11, XR15)
These are 5-digit codes for the newer Xfinity voice remotes:
10463, 11463, 11780, 11785, 12049, 12264, 12288
10463 is the most widely confirmed code for Dynex LCD and LED models. It’s what Comcast technicians use in the field. For the older 4-digit Comcast remote, use 0463.
For a complete list of all Comcast/Xfinity TV codes, see the full Comcast Xfinity universal remote codes guide.
Xfinity XR15 programming steps:
- Turn on your Dynex TV.
- Press and hold the Setup button until the LED turns green.
- Enter the 5-digit code. Green flash = code accepted. Red flash = try next code.
- Press Power to test. Done.
DirecTV (Genie RC73, RC71, RC64)
DirecTV remote code for Dynex: 11756
For older white DirecTV remotes: 10463 also works on most models.
DirecTV auto-scan method:
- Move the slider to TV.
- Press and hold Mute and Select together until the green light flashes twice.
- Enter 991. The green light will flash once.
- Press Channel Up slowly — about once per second — until the TV turns off.
- Press Select to lock in the code.

How to Program Without a Code (Auto-Scan Method)
Use this when no code from the list works.
- Turn on your Dynex TV.
- Press and hold the Setup button until the LED turns on.
- Press the TV button.
- Press Channel Up once per second. The remote is scanning through its full code library with each press.
- When the TV turns off, stop pressing.
- Press Enter or OK to save the code.
Test all buttons after saving. If some don’t work, the scan landed on a partial-match code. Run the auto-scan again and stop at a different point, or enter a code manually from the list above.
Partial Function Problem — Power Works but Input Doesn’t
This is the most common complaint with Dynex remotes and it’s rarely addressed anywhere else.
Why it happens: Dynex TVs were built using multiple OEM chipsets across different production runs. Some codes cover the full IR command set — power, volume, input, mute, channel. Others only cover part of it. When a code matches the power and volume signals but not input control, you’re dealing with a partial code match.
How to fix it:
Try these codes specifically confirmed to work for full input control on Dynex:
- Comcast remote: 10463 (5-digit) or 0463 (4-digit)
- GE remote: 0135 or 1171
- Generic/other: Try the Admiral code set in your remote’s code book
If partial matches keep happening, use the auto-scan method and test the Input or Source button before saving. Only save the code when the input button works.
Troubleshooting — When No Code Works
Reset the remote first. Hold the Setup button for 10 seconds until the LED blinks twice. This clears any partial programming and returns the remote to factory state. Start fresh after a reset.
Try compatible OEM brand codes. Because Dynex is a private label, your remote’s codebook may not list it. Search instead for these brands in your remote’s manual or on-screen setup menu: Emerson, Admiral, Sansui, Orion, Memorex, Sylvania. These share the same IR protocol as many Dynex models. The Sylvania universal remote codes and Orion TV universal remote codes guides cover the full code sets for both brands.
Check the batteries. Weak batteries cause failed pairings even with the correct code. The LED may light up normally but the IR signal won’t reach the TV reliably. Replace batteries before spending time troubleshooting codes.
Use your phone as a remote. If your phone has an IR blaster — common on many Android devices — apps like AnyMote or Sure Universal Remote can control Dynex TVs directly. Select Emerson or Admiral from the brand list in the app if Dynex isn’t listed. This works as a full-function temporary remote while you sort out the programming issue.
Buy a replacement remote. If no code works across multiple programming attempts and your original Dynex remote is lost or broken, a universal TV remote with auto-scan is the most reliable fix. Look for one that supports auto-scan — it will find the right code automatically without needing the manual code entry.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the universal code for a Dynex TV? The most widely confirmed code is 10463 for 5-digit remotes (Comcast, DirecTV, RCA) and 0463 for 4-digit remotes. For TiVo, use 0091. For GE remotes, start with 0135.
What brand codes work with Dynex? Emerson, Admiral, Sansui, Orion, and Sylvania codes all work with many Dynex models because those brands shared the same OEM chipsets. If your remote doesn’t list Dynex, try one of these brands instead. You can also check the Insignia universal remote codes guide — Insignia is another Best Buy private-label brand that often shares compatible codes with Dynex.
Why does my code work for volume but not input? That’s a partial code match. The code covers some IR commands but not all. Try 10463 (Comcast 5-digit) or 0135 (GE 4-digit) — both are confirmed to cover the full function set on most Dynex models. If those still don’t work, run the auto-scan and test the input button before saving.
Can I use my phone to control a Dynex TV? Yes, if your phone has an IR blaster. Use an app like AnyMote or Sure Universal Remote and select Emerson from the brand list. This works as a full-function backup remote.
Does Dynex still make TVs? No. Best Buy discontinued the Dynex brand. The TVs remain in use and all the codes in this guide apply to those models.
